What types of team activities are you using and how successful have they been?
Tell us about your synchronous and asynchronous discussions and use of social media
In what ways to you build community in your course
Community building is very important in my courses - I use asynchronous chats, peer badging of assignments (as different from my grading), meeting in virtual reality (as avatars - for community building), and sharing of certain types of assignments (not all) with a discussion board format. I do bring in a collaboration at the end, but I am only marginally successful - I am trying one again this semester.
I am actually working on connecting STEM resources with some groups in Africa - and, as you point out, I need to move towards mobile technologies.
Thus, I was taking notes eagerly on your idea and your results. I can agree with all the @#$% w/ tech; but I have been doing it my whole teaching career - so I am well versed to having to sing-and-dance.
But thank you for making it easier for me / us to try - your results and findings make it all worth the struggle. Great role models and I am looking forward to the ongoing sharing of ideas, and maybe projects. eileen
Hi Eileen, I would love to hear more about what you are doing with STEM resources in Africa. I'm working on a few MOOC's and SPOC's focused on getting resources to areas in Africa. One of the goals for our computer engineering MOOC is to increase global access to STEM education.
