Sounds like you are doing some cool work. Is higher order thinking and critical thinking that much different online than in the classroom? Or are the strategies to get there that much different?

I do not teach online yet, but I do see what you see, but from the instructors. The process of working with faculty to enhance their current online courses has been slow going. I expected more enthusiasm from the faculty.

It is interesting that you say students are conditioned to learn only one way. I saw Alexandria Pickett at conference this year, and she commented during a presentation that this summer was the first summer she is not teaching online because her students had the same issues, they had a real hard time breaking the mold of passive learning and gave Alex a hard time during the class.

So we have the dual stream of instructors and students who are used to passive learning, how do we break that cycle after students spend their k-12 career immersed in passive learning?

Sorry for the really late reply, what is praxis?

I am doing pretty good. I am working at SUNY Maritime College, my first full time instructional designer role. So that is pretty exciting.

hi Diane, we had professor Picketts intro to online teaching course together back in 2011, how are you? I see you are at canton? I am at Maritime. One of our faculty/staff member Joe Hoffman was your interim president at Canton. small world
