about me
Since my grant funded position has as the instructional designer for Colorado Mountain College concluded, I am ready for my next adventure. At CMC I worked with subject matter experts and industry professionals to design and develop online and hybrid courses. Because of my experience as an instructional designer and Quality Matters Peer Reviewer, I was asked to be a member of the Online Course Quality Task Force and I was instrumental in their program quality creating a course in Canvas for online instructors called “Online Course Pedagogy”.

Prior to taking the grant position at CMC, I was the Instructional Technologist at Johnson & Wales University, Denver, hired to launch their first ever LMS, Blackboard. I successfully supported faculty, staff, and students in the initiative well within the timeline set, exceeding the expectations of administrators. In addition, I supported other classroom technology use using the crowd sourcing concept which included electronic media guidance such as user-guides created in Dreamweaver and video created with Camtasia. In collaboration with the excellent library staff at JWU, I held bi-monthly “Lunch with Loretta & Lori” sessions that showcased various emerging technology tools used by faculty.

My instructional designer career began when I was hired as the first Learning Technologies Integration Specialist for Niagara County Community College. Here I learned best practices in online learning from the experts of the former SUNY Learning Network (now Open SUNY) and where I became skilled with using course creation tools such as Camtasia, Captivate, SoftChalk, and many others.

I continue to teach online for two Open SUNY colleges, Buffalo State and Niagara County Community College, where I also peer review several of the online courses each year. Working as an online instructor helps me to be more authentic when I work with faculty as I often test out technologies in my online classrooms before I share the tools with others. I especially love the chance to learn about both technology and pedagogy, and then share what I know with faculty. My main goal is help instructors manage their classes more efficiently, while at the same time helping their students to succeed by enhancing their learning experience with engaging activities available to us in the 21st century.
