Nathan Whitley-Grassi is the faculty instructional technologist at Empire State College's Buffalo location, where he works with faculty to develop pedagogically sound methods for integrating technology into their teaching and learning.
Whitley-Grassi is a faculty member for the Master of Arts in Learning and Emerging Technologies (MALET) program where he teaches courses on educational assessment, STEM education, instructional design, and advises graduate students at the ESC School of Graduate Studies. Whitley-Grassi also teaches courses in education, biological anthropology and ecology and evolution topics at the undergraduate level, including co-developing the ecology and earth systems field methods residency held each summer in Cooperstown NY.
Whitley-Grassi’s research interests include increasing access to STEM experiences through innovative technology integration, educational assessment and faculty development. Whitley-Grassi is the principal investigator on a SUNY Innovative Instructional Technology Grant titled “Ecology and Earth Science Virtual Field Experiences OERs: Expanding Access to Field-Based Research Techniques for Students at a Distance”. He is co-principal investigator on the Tools of Engagement Project (TOEP): On-demand Discovery Learning Professional Development, a multi-year grant funded project run out of the University of Buffalo that has provided professional development opportunities for hundreds of SUNY faculty on campuses across the system.
