I am Jeri Fairman, Dean for Curriculum and Instruction at Jefferson Community College. I am relatively new to the position having held it since January 2010.
My career at Jefferson began in 1989 when I started working here as an instructor of Mathematics. Over my 20 years in the classroom I have taught most of the mathematics courses offered in the JCC catalog. I have taught in the face-to-face classroom, in the ITV room and online. I have developed and taught Intermediate Algebra, Calculus 1, and Calculus 2 online and migrated all except the algebra course from the previously used Lotus Notes to Blackboard.
Just coming on board by invitation as I am now in the UK working on a research PhD in mathematics e-learning. We now have five kids (2-14) and we are all over here together.
Looks like you've had some significant changes (i.e. now a dean!). Congrats! Please give my regards to the math people at JCC. We have good memories of the area and your college.
I hope there will be some discussion and that it will be beneficial to all.
I will look forward to learning from you as you share what you know here : ) Please add a photo to your profile when you can and introduce yourself in the Welcome - who are you? forum so we can get to know you a little better. I would love if you would share what you teach online, for how long, your discipline and what is going on in online teaching and learning at Jefferson? Maybe also a little about what you are looking for in this community, or anything else you want us to know. Check out the online teaching math group - i hope you will join and share what you know there!
